While my dad was alive, both my parents would share their dreams, discuss them, read the Bible, and pray together as part of their morning routine. I remember times when one of them had a prophetic dream warning of impending danger, leading them to pray for our family's protection, or when they received divine guidance for their future steps in life. Talking about dreams was a common practice in our household. Following my parents' example, I began paying attention to my own dreams since I was a teenager. While I didn't always fully comprehend them, I made a habit of recalling them in the morning and occasionally sharing them with my father.
In the Bible, God communicates with people through different means, and dreams are one of them. Despite many individuals ignoring dreams for various reasons, it is important to seek God's grace to interpret dream messages and recognize when He is speaking to someone through dreams.
To comprehend dream life, one needs knowledge, insight into different dream sources, and interpreting skills. Interpreting dreams is challenging and a person can be easily misguided by his/her dream life. Similar to learning a new language, understanding dream life is advantageous but can be tricky if done with limited knowledge. Despite the potential pitfalls, mastering dream interpretation is a valuable skill that can bring benefits when approached cautiously.
Throughout my personal exploration of dreams, I have delved into various Biblical narratives and accounts concerning dreams. I asked God for grace of understanding dreams. Furthermore, I acquired literature from Christians authors focusing on dream analysis and interpretation, and enrolled in reputable courses by Christian instructors on interpreting dreams. In my youth, I also red several secular works on dream interpretation and symbolism. While some resources proved valuable, others were occasionally misleading or unsettling. My dedication to understanding dream interpretation spans decades, with ongoing learning.
Every night before I sleep, I pray and reflect on Bible verses to open up a channel for the Holy Spirit to communicate with me as I rest. Upon waking during the night, I make an effort to recall my dreams and seek insight from the Holy Spirit. If I sense something particularly significant, I make sure to write it down in my journal to remember it in the morning.
Do you pay attention to your dreams? You can start learning to decode your dream language through Bible contemplation, prayer, and journaling dreams. As time goes by, you may find yourself amazed by the advancements in your dream interpretation skills and the impact it has on your spiritual journey.
“He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they lie in their beds. He whispers in their ears and terrifies them with warnings. He makes them turn from doing wrong; he keeps them from pride. He protects them from the grave, from crossing over the river of death.” - Job 33:15-18
